How To Prevent Green Teeth

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

If you’re celebrating today, we hope you’re wearing your green and not getting pinched! If you’re also indulging in green foods and drinks, like green eggs, green beer, green candy, and green baked goods, you may notice your smile turning a bit green as well. Green food coloring can be a powerful staining agent.

There are ways to prevent green teeth this year, though! Opt for food-coloring-free foods such as corned beef and cabbage or naturally green fruits and vegetables. Choose drinks without the food coloring as well. This means skipping the green beer!
Tip: Dark beer can’t be dyed to look green.

If you’ve recently whitened or are currently whitening your teeth, your teeth are vulnerable to stains so it’s especially important that you avoid staining foods and drinks such as food-coloring, red wine, dark berries, tomato sauce, etc.

What if your teeth are already stained green? Here are some tips to help whiten your smile:

  • Brush with a whitening toothpaste.
  • Floss to help clean those areas in between your teeth.
  • Stop into Blue Hills Dental for professional teeth cleaning! Ask about our in-office professional teeth whitening and at-home whitening trays and whitestrips.

Have a fun holiday, and stay safe
